I. CALL TO ORDER: The Regular Meeting of the Weaverville Fire Protection District was called to order by Chairman Bill Britton at 1600 hours. Members present: Bill Britton, Mike William, Larry Helsley, George Owen and Dee Potter. Member absent: None. Others present: Chief Alvord, Terri McBrayer, Shannon Taylor, Sleeper Ernie Curran and Clerk Marjie Watkins.
II. CONSENT AGENDA:
A. Approve Minutes of Regular Meeting September 6, 2011
B. Approve Warrant Lists and Journal Entries – MSC: Helsley/Williams to approve the consent agenda as presented.
III. ACTION ITEMS:
A. Discuss/Approve hall rental fee waiver for the “mighty fine swine” 4-H group every third Sunday from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. requested by Terri McBrayer – Terri reported they are starting a new 4-H group and would like to have their meetings here, their funds are low being a new club and is requesting to have the hall rental fee waived. MSC: Helsley/Owen to waive the hall rental fee for the “mighty fine swine” 4-H group to meet here every third Sunday form 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
III. DEPARTMENT AND BUSINESS REPORTS:
A. Hazardous Reduction Progress Report: Chief Alvord reported Mr. McMillan submitted a letter that is included in their packets updating them on the program. The burn ban is still in affect, there are a few jobs to complete when the burn ban is lifted. The County approved $90,000 for next years Title III program, we look forward to having access to those funds around January, 2012.
B. Fire Chief/Marshal’s Report: Chief Alvord reported:
Inspections – 1 set of plans was approved, the big sprinkler system was split into 5 systems.
Plan reviews – New garage on Squires Road, Occupancy load at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Training – Live propane training is this weekend, S-212 chain saw class is scheduled here the first week in November.
Misc – There were 2 minor roof leaks in the station 1 roof, WT-32 door has been fixed, the asphalt is bubbled up out back Mr. Owen thinks on of the drains is leaking he is working on getting it fixed. New Swiss phone pagers were ordered last week.
Sleeper Program Reports – Sleeper Curran reported he has been away on fires; he has not completed any major projects at the station this month.
C. Committee Reports:
a. Recruitment Committee – Chief Alvord reported he would like to have a recruitment meeting to talk about what they might be interested in asking for, for the up coming FEMA Safer grant.
b. Collections Committee – None
c. Contract Committee – None
d. Tuition Committee – Chief Alvord reported 6 people signed up for the EMT class, so far there have been no requests for tuition reimbursement.
D. Directors Reports – Mr. Helsley reported Paradise City is working on cost recovery for DUI incidents, Chief Alvord will look into this. Mr. Owen thanked Chief Alvord for the quick response in getting the dead tree removed from the Oil Fire School.
